macOS Will Not Install
It can be an extremely frustrating experience when a newer version of MacOS will not install on your iMac or MacBook.
It is not uncommon for the MacOS installation process to become stuck or get interrupted.
Common error messages include:
“The macOS installation couldn’t be completed”

“Could not create a preboot volume for APFS install”
Or
“There is not enough free space on OS X Base System to install”
Or
“The copy of the install MacOS Mojave.app application is damaged can can’t be used to install macOS”

“MacOS could not be installed on your computer”
Or
“Installation of macOS could not continue”
Or
“MacOS could not be installed on your computer. The installer resources were not found. Quit the installer to restart your computer and try again”
Or
“An error occurred validating the installer data. The download is either damaged or incomplete”
Or
“An error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running this installation again”
Or
“Could not find installation information for this machine”
When MacOS will not install, try running some of these simple troubleshooting steps and fixes:

Use Disk Utility to make sure your hard disk has enough capacity.

Running hard disk diagnostics to check the health of your drive.

Running diagnostics on your Mac’s (RAM).

Download a new installer from the App Store and create a new bootable USB installer

By performing a clean installation of MacOS instead of an upgrade

Try performing an NVRAM and SMC reset

If you cannot install MacOS using a downloaded installer from the App Store, you could try the Recovery Partition or Internet Recovery.

Make sure the time and date settings on your system are correct.

Always perform a Time Machine Backup or clone of your disk before troubleshooting MacOS installation problems. While this might take more time – better to be safe than sorry.
